A recently released study by a consulting firm told the Cheney Light Department it has three options in order to combat rising wholesale electrical rates. Those include doing business as usual with rate increases, outsource services such as meter reading or sell the utility.
The recently revived Cheney Parks and Recreation Department, which reopened in 2004, was looking for input from city residents to help chart its future.
The return of football to the campus of Cheney High School for the first time since 1992 was a success as the Blackhawks scored a 21-13 Greater Spokane League victory over Mt. Spokane. Donnie McKee scored all three Cheney touchdowns while running for 273 yards on 29 carries.

The Washington state Auditor’s office released a recent report on the Cheney School District that showed the organization was deficient in several areas, including lack of internal controls concerning Associated Student Body funds.
The former Key Tronic plant west of Cheney, now vacant for two years, lost out on another possible tenant when Pacific Circuits Inc. decided to move to Skagit County.
Cheney’s 25-14 win over Pullman and East Valley’s 38-7 victory over Riverside set up a meeting of Frontier League unbeaten this week. Jesse Ewell ran for three touchdowns for the Blackhawks.

The city of Cheney has not necessarily decided to take part in funding the proposed Park West Golf Course but joined other municipalities in studying the idea.
The Cheney School District threw its support behind House Joint Resolution 22. The measure would reduce the current 60 percent needed for passage of special levies and bond issues to a simple majority.
Cheney scored a 31-19 Frontier League football game victory over Colville at Homecoming as fullback Chris Templeton scored twice.

The Cheney City Council approved a $482,511 bid from Murphy Brothers Construction Co. for planned central business district renovations.
A juvenile court petition charged 12-year-old Cheney resident David Gow with first degree assault in the shooting of his mother Jean Nordblom and father Carl Nordblom.
Cheney needed a Kansas tiebreaker to defeat Deer Park 20-13 on the road as quarterback Kelly Williams hit Paul Harris for a 10-yard scoring play and then the Blackhawks’ defense held the Stags.

Eastern Washington State College was beginning its 75th year of operation with an enrollment of 3,658 students, 481 above of fall quarter 1964.
The Cheney City Council approved a final budget for 1966 of $911,261, a decrease of $13,747 over the previous year.
George Rosenzweig scored on a 55-yard run to open the second half and scored another from 23 yards out in Cheney’s 13-0 football victory over Deer Park.
