The Medical Lake School board breezed through a quick agenda at its Sept. 22 meeting.
The board approved a resolution requesting state legislators comply with Supreme Court orders in the McCleary Case to fully fund basic education. Superintendent Tim Ames said other districts are drafting similar resolutions that task the state to follow the Supreme Court’s orders.
Business manager Chad Moss gave early enrollment numbers, saying the district is up 24 full-time equivalent students. He said numbers are up at Hallett and Michael Anderson elementary schools and the high school, but down at the middle school.
“We’re hoping the projections will stay true to the numbers,” Moss said. “Even with the upcoming downtrend, it looks like we’ll level out,” Moss said.
The board approved its goals for 2015-16. These include:
• Demonstrating a commitment to the district motto and mission, “Every student, Every day,” and to ensure all students are prepared to be innovative, productive citizens in an ever-changing world.
• Ensuring all students, beginning in third-grade, are provided with information and resources to help them achieve their career and college goals.
• Continuing to develop a high level of understanding for the 2015-16 district’s multiple initiatives and the intended impact on student achievement.
• To be informed and support the implementation of a military family advocate position for the school district.
In regards to the military family advocate, Ames said the position would be for 20 hours a week.
“This person knows what she’s doing,” Ames said. “We’ll generate a plan and present it to the board.”
