Cheney firefighters earn promotions
Two Cheney firefighters have successfully completed the promotion process with top scores in their classifications and moved up in fire department rank. Chris Munoz has been promoted to lieutenant while Bill Dennstaedt was promoted to battalion chief, with both receiving their new badges at a ceremony during the Sept. 8 City Council meeting.
Munoz has been with the department since 2006, serving three years as a resident firefighter and three years as a volunteer before becoming full time in 2013. He has also worked for American Medical Response.
Dennstaedt has been with the department since 2009. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014, and has also had a long career with Spokane County Fire District 3 where his father is currently serving as a deputy chief.
County leadership seminar
Communication is vital to any business and can make or break an individual’s professional image, directly influencing how others view a person’s work and performance.
Spokane County Extension in partnership with Spokane Eastern Washington Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors is hosting a Women in Leadership Seminar Wednesday, Sept. 30, to help local women, in business or not, learn the ins and outs of great customer service and develop tools needed to be successful.
Jennifer Valerien, owner of RE/MAX Inland Empire, will bring her 25 years of customer service experience to her role as the seminar’s keynote speaker. The seminar costs $10, and runs 10 a.m. – noon at the WSU-Spokane County Extension offices, 222 N. Havana St., lower level Room C in the Spokane Valley.
Air Force opens new recruiting center
The U.S. Air Force’s 368th Recruiting Squadron is hosting a ribbon-cutting event Sept. 25 to inaugurate its new offices in the Spokane Valley. The event begins at 11 a.m. at the new facility located at 8901 E. Trent, Suite 111A, and will feature the Air Force’s supercar “Vapor.”
According to a news release, the new offices are part of the Air Force Recruiting Services “transformational efforts to consolidate recruiting offices into more centralized locations.
Volunteers needed to count cyclists, pedestrians
The Washington State Department of Transportation is still in need of about 400 volunteers to help count the number of people who ride bicycles or walk to their destinations during the department’s annual three-day survey, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. According to a news release, the data collected helps WSDOT improve bicycling and walking policies, projects and funding in Washington.
There were over 72,000 bicyclists and pedestrians that were counted by volunteers in communities across Washington in 2014. Volunteers are needed in more than 50 cities, including Spokane and Spokane Valley.
