With the addition of lights and a scoreboard, football was about to return to the Cheney High School campus for the first time since 1992. The Blackhawks had been playing home games at Woodward Field at Eastern Washington University.

Despite recent improvements that had helped reduce accidents, State Route 904 was still in need of widening to four lanes, local officials said. The road was the busiest two-lane highway in Eastern Washington with upwards of 17,000 vehicles traveling between Cheney and Four Lakes.

A 34-30 loss at Idaho State dropped EWU’s football team from No. 5 to No. 14 in the Sports Network poll.

Sept. 28, 1995

Steve Miller was still the attorney for the city of Cheney according to Mayor Al Ogdon, despite a judges ruling that found Miller guilty of using undue influence in dealing with a client’s estate valued at $750,000.

The Cheney City Council approved two new housing developments, the five-phase, 163 lot Golden Hills and the 90-unit Cheney Paradise Estates.

Cheney ran its football record to a perfect 3-0 and was ranked No. 4 in the state 2A polls following a 35-14 win over Colville in which John Patterson ran for three touchdowns.

Oct. 3, 1985

The second phase of construction of an apartment complex, this one the 32-unit 2424 University Place, was scheduled to begin this week.

The condition of Medical Lake was slowly regressing back to the problem-plagued levels it experienced in 1977 with poor oxygen levels.

Oct. 1, 1965

The Cheney City Council presented its preliminary budget of $134,000 for review with final adoption Oct. 4.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 4, the Cheney branch of the Seattle First National Bank announced it would begin discounting Canadian coins and currency, manager Ed Betz announced.

Undefeated Eastern Washington, 2-0, was preparing to face defending Evergreen Conference champion Pacific Lutheran at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.
