Thefts were down but burglaries had doubled over the previous month ,according to a report from the Cheney Police Department.

The Cheney Planning Commission heard about a new housing development called Golden Hills that proposed building 137 homes between North Sixth and Washington Street.
Superintendent Dr. Phil Snowdon said the Cheney School District had presented a new contract proposal to its teachers.
Members of the local bricklayers union were donating their time to build a new concession stand for the baseball field at Cheney High School.

Cheney police quickly located a portable bar reported stolen from the Elegant Egg Restaurant by following the drag marks to the nearby College Hills Apartments and specifically the one occupied by 20-year-old Frank Vishneau.
The U.S. Air Force announced the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team was scheduled to perform at Fairchild Air Force Base’s Aerospace Day on Sept. 14.

The first graduating class of Amber High School held its 50th reunion recently with four members of that class, Miss Franc Mason, Mrs. Grace Humbert, Mrs. Josie March and Mrs. Ella Dixon attending the picnic.
Among the projects slated to be constructed out of the 1965-1967 Eastern Washington State College $12.9 million capital budget were the $2.25 million Kennedy Library and the $1.86 million Graham Dressler dormitory.
Eastern Washington Recreation Association swimmer Bob Stone won the high points trophy for the 10 and under division while Ken Radon captured the same award for boys 11-12 at a recent meet in Pullman.
