Cheney's Lyle and Alice Polack are definitely very busy people

Of Cabbages and Kings

Here's Lyle and Alice Polack. We sat down to talk one day and I found this couple have many things to tell.

Lyle said, "I come from Michigan." He calls himself a transplant. He spent more than 22 years in the Air Force including time at Okinawa. On his way home he came to Fairchild and finally landed in our area. As he described it, "I came and have been here ever since."

Lyle is not one to sit and let the world go by. Out of the Air Force, Lyle drove school buses, and worked on the problems of other people, including their cars. This is only a small portion of business that has kept him busy.

Alice lived in Spokane before their marriage. She retired from Spokane Community College where she had been a secretary. Sometimes students from the college would come to Alice with problems and ask for advice. With Alice's calm, helpful manner, she was well liked.

Now, in a different environment and together with Lyle, she said, "I'm enjoying life with our travels." The Polacks spend many hours keeping an eye on the business of the Tyler Grange "620." The Polacks call it their "career together."

Their most recent event was the "Flea Market," full of people selling or admiring items for sale. No fleas were available. Tyler Grange is a co-sponsor of this event. Coming soon is the annual garbage pick-up along State Route 904. Other people occasionally like to help and enjoy the work and friendship.

In October, Tyler Grange opens its doors for the evening of the Harvest Dinner. If you've never been a guest at this event you are missing something grand.

Lyle and Alice are known for their motorcycle trips to visit family and friends far away. They always remember family wherever it may be. Lyle has two family members close by. His son, also named Lyle, is familiar to many people in the Cheney area. Lyle's daughter, Dana, lives close by.

The Polack's friend, J.D. Dickerson, has a home close to the grange and is a welcome helper for many of the things that must be done.

I have given you only a few words about some of the Polack's adventures. These two people can tell you interesting stories you'll never forget. See you later.
