Cheney Rodeo brings back 2014 champs
The 48th annual Cheney Rodeo will attract both a number of defending champions, plus other top regional competitors for its July 10-12 run at the Bi-Mart Arena.
According to information released July 6, Saddle Bronc competition will feature the top two riders from 2014, champion Ben Londo from San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Battle Mountain, Nev. competitor, Max Fillippini, both whom will ride Sunday. Londo leads the Columbia River Circuit in saddle bronc winnings with $6,536. The competition also includes No. 2 in money, Ryan Mackensie from Homedale, Idaho.
Nick Gutswiler is the current No. 2 bareback rider in the Columbia River Circuit with $4,298 in winnings and rides Friday trying to better his sixth place in 2014.
Roger Nonella competes Saturday in the Tie Down Roping looking to defend his 2014 title.
Shane Erickson out of Terrebonne, Ore. the Columbia River’s current No. 2 will ride Friday and compete in Tie Down Roping and Team Roping, trying to improve on a seventh place last year at Cheney.
IHRA drags make first-ever stop in Spokane
Some of the world’s best drag racers will head to Spokane County Raceway this weekend, July 10-11 for the inaugural Nitro Jam Nationals presented by Good Vibrations.
This will mark the International Hot Rod Association’s (IHRA) first ever race in Spokane and is the first Nitro Jam appearance of the Pro Alcohol Funny Cars and Blown Alcohol Thunder categories this season.
Other professional classes include Nitro Harley, Nitro Funny Cars and Jet Dragster. The Summit Sportsman classes will compete as a stand-alone event on Sunday, July 12.
Gates open each day at 8 a.m.
