Cheney hosts regional mini-conference

Cheney High School played host to the annual Washington Association of Maintenance and Operation Administrators mini-conference for regional school districts. The June 25 conference was attended by maintenance and operations trades people and district custodians, with workshops given by industry and maintenance professionals.

In an email, Jeff McClure, Cheney School District director of maintenance and operations, said attendees could take part in up to four workshops in subjects such as LED lighting, playground safety, respiratory protection, indoor air quality, roofing, pest control and flooring techniques.

“The classes are different every year and are designed to keep everyone up to date on new rules and methods, all designed to make schools an even safer place for kids,” McClure wrote.

The conference also included 20 vendor booths displaying new products relating to school maintenance. The conference’s keynote speaker was former Cheney School District Superintendent, and current Rosalia School District Superintendent Larry Keller.

Besides Cheney, school districts sending personnel to the conference were Almira, Central Valley, Chewelah, Davenport, Inchelium, Liberty, Mead, Medical Lake, Reardan-Edwall, Riverside, Rosalia, Spokane, Sprague, Saint George’s, St. John and Valley.
