Behind the saves to all-Northeast A League keeper Nathan Reichenbach, plus an early penalty kick goal from him in the shootout, the Colville Indians scored a 1-0 soccer win over Medical Lake May 14 in the district championship game at Gonzaga Prep.
"Their keeper had the game of his life," Medical Lake head coach Zane Higgins said. Reichenbach completed the game by stopping three straight Medical Lake shots. He stopped seven in regulation. Medical Lake keeper Nick Isherwood made 10 saves.
Among the saves Isherwood made in the shootout was a diving stop to his right on Colville's all-league selection Alberto Cisneros.
Medical Lake got their shootout goals from Dallas White, Nick Rosenbeck and Kirill Lesnykh. Along with Reichenbach, who scored the first goal of the shootout, Colville got additional goals from Chris Benson, Jimmy Lepp and Ridge Walston.
The teams played a pair of five-minute overtimes before engaging in the shootout. "They went out and gave it as much as they could," Higgins said.
Both Colville (11-3) and Medical Lake (9-9) advanced into the championship with nail-biting 1-0 wins earlier in the week, the Cardinals getting their goal from White on an assist from Wil Noble in the 27th minute to beat Newport.
Colville topped Lakeside at home 1-0 May 12 in their first shootout on the week.
"The team played the way I wanted them to," Higgins said. "Players stepped up, it was fun watching them."
Medical Lake placed three players on the All-NEA team including Noble, who was the offensive MVP along with midfielders Ty Masteller and Ryan Spangler.
