Love is displayed when we help those in need of it

Letters to the Editor

In the May 7 edition of the Cheney Free Press Mr. Norm Luther states that Jesus never talked about homosexuality. Mr. Luther may be right, to my knowledge Jesus never used the word homosexual. Mr. Luther uses this detail as justification for his feeling that the Supreme Court of the U.S. should allow same sex marriages. Unfortunately for Mr. Luther, Jesus does describe what a marriage is in Mark, chapter 10. Please read it. There is no misunderstanding that Jesus is talking about marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Mr. Luther, again you are correct in stating that Jesus talked a lot about love. We’re instructed to “love our enemies,” to “love our neighbors” and that love covers up a multitude of sin. We’re also instructed to act in God pleasing ways. In Matthew 5 Jesus says that living in accordance to the Ten Commandments is God pleasing. In the same way Mark 10 tells us what is God pleasing.

In reference to your desire to have the Supreme Court also rule on election laws and you advocate that they somehow make up laws to redistribute wealth.

I would suggest that love is displayed when we help those that need it instead of take away something that is not ours from someone else. By taking care of those less fortunate than ourselves (instead of letting others do it) we grow in our love and understanding and those who are receiving are in contact with those who are trying to help and support them, not a bureaucrat that’s doing a job. Both parties are blessed.

Mr. Luther, you have the right to believe anything that you’d like to. I’d like you to believe what is true.

And in this case Jesus has defined marriage as occurring between a man and a woman. If you want to believe otherwise that’s your choice, but you’ll need to use a different argument to justify your belief.
