Cynthia Ellen Rogers

Cynthia Ellen (Armstrong) Rogers passed away Friday, April 24, at home, surrounded by family, after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Cindy was born July 14, 1938, in the farmhouse of her parents, now deceased, Willis Harold Armstrong and Dora Marguerite (Aldrich) Armstrong, in Waitsfield, Vt. It was there that Cindy developed her love of gardening, a practice she continued well into her 70s.

Proud of her Vermont heritage, she loved maple syrup, mint julep candy, and swimming in the Mad River with her four brothers: Edward Willis Armstrong, Norman Bailey Armstrong, Eugene Lorin Armstrong and Clyde Lucius Armstrong. Edward and Eugene predeceased her; as did two of her seven children, Deborah Jeanne Chute and Diana Lynn Rogers; and Cindy's beloved West Highland white terrier Scotty McDuff.

Known for her remarkable intuition, Cindy devoured mystery novels, often finishing a book in a single day. She also appreciated antique and blown glass and spent several years in the 1970s working at The Glass Factory in Milford, Mass.

Ultimately she settled in the Pacific Northwest where she enjoyed hiking and camping with her loving husband of more than 30 years, John Roy Rogers.

Cindy is survived by her husband, John; five children: Lawrence Walter Chute Jr., Gregory Edward Chute Sr., Nancy Ellen Aldrich, Jenny Ellen Dutton and Kelly Jean Rogers; four grandchildren: Jason Andrew Chute, Jennilyn Ellen Bennett, Gregory Edward Chute Jr. and Travis Aaron Dutton.

She cherished hosting holidays at her home and being surrounded by her numerous great-grandchildren. 

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at Cheney Funeral Chapel, 1632 W. First Ave., Cheney. Her favorite flower was Lily of the Valley. Visit the online guestbook at cheneyfuneral.com.
