Delray Standerfer

Del was born in Spokane to Cody and Marie Standerfer Nov. 23, 1933, and passed away at home February 21, 2015 of prostate cancer. He spent his first 16 years in Spokane then moved to Four Lakes and graduated from Cheney High School in 1953.

He is survived by his wife Marlene who he married July 31, 1954; three children, Bonita and husband Bill Hawker, Virgil and wife Becky and Rita and husband Tom Henson; one brother Willie and wife Sheila. He has six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Del and Marlene lived in Four Lakes until they retired in 1995. They moved to the Duckabush River on the Olympic Peninsula. Del worked for the Lincoln Mercury dealership in Spokane for several years, then worked for the Cheney School District in Transportation and Maintenance for 22 years.

Del spent lots of time hunting, fishing and trapshooting. He was a life member of Amber Gun Club, Sprague Gun Club and Spokane Gun Club and was past president of the Spokane Gun Club. He was a life member of the American Trapshooting Association (ATA) and Washington State Delegate for eight years. Del was inducted into the Washington State Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2000.

After retirement, he spent several winters in Arizona shooting, went to Alaska in 1998 and shot the Alaska State Shoot. He shot registered shoots in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming, Ohio, Vancouver B.C. and Calgary. He was also past Chief of the Hiyu Indians and member of the Pacific Indians and Makaha Indians. In his spare time he loved working on wood projects.

A celebration of life will be held sometime this summer.
