The Cheney-Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute has several events coming up May 8-9.
First, Dr. Gene Kiver will present a free, public lecture on Friday, May 8, at Eastern Washington University’s JFK Library’s auditorium on one of Washington’s most spectacular canyons — the Grand Coulee.
The lecture runs from 7 – 9 p.m., and is sponsored by Jackie Scholz, State Farm Insurance in Cheney, and the EWU Department of Geology. Contact Melanie Bell at (509) 954-4242 or [email protected] for more information.
Saturday, May 9, join Kiver and Bruce Bjornstad on the field trip, “Investigation of the Complications of the Flood Story Through Crab Creek and Other Flood Coulees.” The trip will take participants on a daylong journey to a place no Ice Age Floods Institute trip has been to — through the Crab Creek Watershed area and return via the Moses Coulee.
Riders will spend the day on a deluxe bus tour to the Lower Grand Coulee to investigate the complications of the Flood story in Central Washington.
The bus leaves at 7:30 a.m., and returns at 6 p.m. The Nixon Agency Farmers Insurance, EWU Department of Geology and Ice Age Floods Institute-Cheney-Spokane Chapter sponsor the field trip. Registration form, field trip information and liability form can be accessed at http://www.iafi.org and at http://www.iceagefloodsewa.org.
