Eastern fraternity is suspended

Citing undisclosed violations, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Eastern Washington University has been suspended.

"Eastern Washington University is working in partnership with the national chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon to respond to recent complaints of alleged behaviors that fail to meet the conduct standards and expectations set forth by the national chapter and EWU," the school said in a statement.

The fraternity's national headquarters sent a representative to Cheney and ordered the Gamma chapter to cease any and all chapter activities while an investigation is conducted to determine an appropriate course of action. During this time, the chapter facility is to remain entirely substance-free, including any possession or consumption of alcohol by any tenant or guest of any age.

One of the activities Sigma Phi Epsilon has sponsored was "Operation Not Forgotten," staged over Memorial Day weekend 2014 to honor over 6,800 fallen veterans from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

According the fraternity's website, the Washington Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Eastern Washington University was founded on June 1, 1991.
