Medical Lake boys finish week 3-0 in NEA tennis

The Medical Lake boy’s tennis team concluded a perfect week in the Northeast A League with perfect play from Isiah Farmen and Austin Brown.

The Cardinals’ No. 1 doubles team helped Medical Lake top Chewelah 3-2 on April 14, Riverside 5-0, April 16 and conclude the week with a 4-1 win April 17 against Deer Park.

Farmen and Brown won 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7-5) to open the week at home versus Chewelah on a cold and windy day in Medical Lake.

“These guys took us on a roller coaster of a match. Ups and downs, but by the time we were done, they played some really great tennis,” co-head coach Dawn Eliassen said.

Farmen and Brown followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Riverside and finished with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory at Deer Park. The Cardinals wound up the week in the lead in the NEA with a 4-1 record.

Trevor Nilles and Colten Miller teamed at No. 3 doubles twice and won both matches, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 versus Chewelah and rallied past Riverside 3-6. 6-0, 6-2, last Thursday.

Nilles teamed with Tyler Krivolavy at No. 2 doubles winning by default at Deer Park.

On the girls’ side, Natasha Alsept and Kaytlynn Houger also finished their week 3-0 at No. 2 doubles for a team that went 2-1 in NEA matches. They topped their Chewelah opponents 6-1, 7-5, breezed past Riverside with a pair of 6-0 wins and wrapped up their week with a 6-3, 6-4 win versus Deer Park.

“These two get better and better each match,” Eliassen said.

The Medical Lake girls are 4-2 in the NEA and trailed Colville (5-1) at week’s end.

Both Medical Lake teams had a showdown match with Colville April 21 and host Freeman today, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.
