Students deserve more space

Letters to the Editor

I am writing to support the Cheney School District’s high school bond measure in the April 28 election. I live and work in the Cheney area, and my children attend Betz Elementary. I am proud of the fact that so much of our community is based in education from our public schools to an outstanding university.

I am excited that my children will have the opportunity to attend Cheney Middle School.  When our community approved a bond to build the middle schools, it sent a message that we really care about our kids and we want them to have opportunities comparable to those of neighboring districts.

I sincerely hope the citizens of Cheney will approve the bond so thousands of Cheney children will be able to experience a high school that meets their needs for years to come. They deserve more than a school that is overcrowded and insufficient. Right now, there are 15 classrooms located in portables at the high school, students eat lunch on the floors, they give musical performances in inadequate spaces, and they are bused to other locations for sports practices.

I urge you to approve the Cheney School District bond on or before April 28. Let’s show the kids of Cheney how much we value them by providing adequate facilities in which they can learn, grow and thrive.

Beau Baldwin
