The Cheney Parks and Recreation Department hired the consulting firm of Studio Cascade for $15,000 to study the current needs of the city for parks and recreation facilities.
Medical Lake dedicated its new soccer field, named in honor of longtime former long-time parks director Timm Shepard.

The Cheney High School baseball team turned a disappointing season around winning two of their final three games to finish with a 4-14 record for coach Terry Regnier.

The Cheney Jaycees hoped to bring back a community float to the city for the first time since 1966. Float project chairman Brooks Murphy said the idea received enthusiastic support while he was soliciting funds in downtown Cheney.
A proposed mall on a block of College Avenue from First to Second avenues could be complete in a matter of weeks, possibly by the Fourth of July according to city inspector John Bruce.
Paul Harris, Mark McNeal and Mike Gill combined to win six of 17 events as Cheney defeated visiting Pullman 86.5-58.5 in a Frontier League dual track meet.
