Eastern's Fuller named new Western Oregon president

Dr. Rex Fuller, who was a finalist to become Eastern Washington University’s new president a little less than a year ago, was named the 23rd president of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore., April 16.

Fuller, an economist and professor of public administration, has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at EWU since 2011. As provost, Fuller developed a new EWU College of Health Science and Public Health and a new master’s program in Public Health.

Also while at Eastern, Fuller was instrumental in creating innovative student success programs and a university center for community engagement. He recently helped work on a dual-admission program with area community colleges.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Dr. Fuller as well as for the Western Oregon campus,” EWU president Dr. Mary Cullinan said in a statement. “I know you join me in wishing him the very best in his new position.”

Fuller begins his new job July 1 and replaces Mark Weiss, who is retiring in June. Fuller will earn $225,000 per year overseeing the school with an enrollment of about 6,000.

Prior to being named provost, Fuller served as dean of the College of Business and Public Administration and also as executive dean of EWU Spokane. Before arriving in Cheney in 2006, Fuller was dean of the business schools at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Colorado State University.
