Off to their best start in years, the Cheney softball team kept its perfect season intact with a win over visiting Clarkston last Tuesday, April 7.
The Lady Blackhawks used 11 singles to score seven runs in the third and four runs in the fourth for an 11-1 league win over the Bantams, with Julia Boyd, Madison Kallsen and Cheyenne Hanson each going 2 for 3 at the plate. Boyd and Kallsen combined to deliver a four-hitter on the mound, with Boyd (5-0) getting the win.
It was the sixth time this season the Lady Blackhawks have needed only five innings for a win. The only time Cheney has gone further was a 17-7 non-league win April 1 over Medical Lake in six innings.
With the win, the Lady Blackhawks extended their overall record to 7-0, 5-0 in Great Northern League play. So far this season, Cheney has outscored its opponents 125-14.
Cheney continues a busy game schedule this week, hosting Pullman (2-3, 2-3) Tuesday and then traveling to Lakeland High School in Rathdrum, Idaho for a non-league hook up Wednesday. The Lady Blackhawks wrap up the week with a doubleheader Saturday at home against second-place East Valley (4-1, 5-4).
