Vote to support Cheney School District

Letters to the Editor

We are writing to support the Cheney School District’s high school bond measure in the April 28 election. As retired educators from Cheney School District and Eastern Washington University, we are so proud of our growing school district, and this bond continues our investment in our students and schools.

We were very disappointed with the Free Press editorial on March 26. Anyone who has been in Cheney High School knows the immediate need for relief for our kids, who are trying to learn in portables, who are eating lunch in hallways and student athletes who are bussed to other locations that have enough room for them to practice.

Right now, there are 15 classrooms located in portables at the high school. Our students and our community deserve better. Not only do good schools facilitate student learning, they create attractiveness in the community for prospective homebuyers.

The district is offering tours to anyone who wants to learn more about the needs of the school. Tours are available on Thursday, April 16 and Monday, April 20, both at 8:15 a.m. Please RSVP by contacting Troy Heuett, Cheney High School Principal at [email protected]. Everyone will meet in the main office and be taken on a guided tour of the school. If you have any doubts about why we need to approve this bond for our kids, we urge you to see the high school first-hand.

We urge you to approve the Cheney School District bond on April 28. We don’t need more time to determine what is best for our students. We need to make these investments in our school building today so our students have the opportunities they need to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Shane and

Patricia Mahoney,

Cheney
