The Eastern Washington University track and field team finished their indoor campaign on a high note on the final day of the Big Sky Conference Championships Feb. 28 in Flagstaff, Ariz.

On the third day of competition, the Eagles walked away with four all-conference (top three finish) performances, including Big Sky titles in the men’s weight throw and women’s high jump.

The women’s team earned the best finish in school history as they tied for fourth place with Portland State, and scored a school-record 68 points. The men’s team placed seventh with a total of 36.5 points.

Jordan Arakawa became a back-to-back conference champion in the weight throw with a personal best of 66 feet, 11/2 inches to rank second in school history. The senior wrapped up his indoor career with a total of three All-Big Sky accolades.

“Tierra had the meet of her life,” women’s head coach Marcia Mecklenburg said.”To come in ranked fifth and then to win the high jump with a personal best as a freshman was a magical moment.”

On her final jump of her last indoor season, Morena Mannucci set the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet, 5 3/4 inches to place third overall.

In the women’s mile, sophomore Paula Gil-Echevarria earned her first individual all-conference performance with a time of 5:03.91 (pre-altitude adjusted) to finish third.
