Floyd and Carrie Low's love resulted from an act of determination

Of Cabbages and Kings

Carrie Low said, "When I met Floyd I was 17. Floyd was a senior in high school. He was the only one in his family to graduate from high school. He was determined to get acquainted with me. He found my address. A month after we met he said to me, 'Pick a ring you'd like to have.' It was the first of March. We were married in December."

As time went by Floyd and Carrie's family grew. Carrie loved to name each one as they joined the family. "First came Phillip, then Carol, Glenn, Shirley, and David." Some of their children's families still live next door to Floyd and Carrie. Carrie mentions that daughter Carol brings diet Pepsi to Floyd every week.

In the early years, Floyd and Carrie had a travel trailer. Carrie said, "We traveled all over the United States. We found them all except for Maine. We belonged to the Thousand Trails. It was a large traveling group and many of them became our friends."

Life was very busy as the Lows' planned and built their own home and those of their children and also those of neighbors. Carrie talks of how she and Floyd discussed ways the two of them managed to accomplish what at first seemed difficult. Floyd worked for Armor meat packing plant for 21 years.

When the owner of Armor meat retired, Floyd began a family owned construction company. On a cold day, Floyd and Carrie noticed two 5-year-old children playing in a nearby yard with bare feet. They found the children's father sometimes fell asleep, working nights to support his children.

The Lows became foster parents. Other children who needed help and guidance began to join the two. Carrie loves talking about the many things Floyd could do. She said, "He has a motto: an hour lost in the morning is lost all day. Working all day in the garden or weeding beautiful flowers never tired him. When we were working on the buildings together I did all of the painting."

Floyd's family-owned company became busier. Floyd had confidence. He has been a strong Christian all his life. The Lows now have 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Readers can tell the love these two, Floyd and Carrie, have had for each other and the love they extend to others. We send them thoughts of happiness and peace.
