Cheney High wrestlers Michael Ferguson and Devon Waterman extended their season for one more weekend after they competed in the 2A Region IV tournament Feb. 13-14, in Ellensburg and qualified for the Mat Classic XXVII state championships Feb. 20-21 at the Tacoma Dome.
Waterman (182 pounds) earned his second trip to state after he finished second in his weight division. He scored a 13-6 decision over Othello’s T.J. Martinez in the quarterfinals, followed by a 16-1 technical fall over Quincy’s Cade Wallace. He lost to Ellensburg’s Kerrigan Simpson via third-period pin in the championship round....
