Blackhawks boys end season with 70-42 playoff loss at Pullman

The Cheney High boys’ basketball season came to an end last Thursday in first-round playoff action on the hardwood at Pullman High School’s gym. The host Greyhounds’ stymied the Blackhawks for most of the evening, holding Cheney to just three points in the first quarter en route to a 38-16 lead at the half and eventual 70-42 final.

Cheney’s Keenan Williams led the Blackhawks offensively with nine points to go with seven rebounds. Junior guard Gaige Felix added seven points.

The Blackhawks finished the season at 1-11 in Great Northern League play, 5-16 overall. They lose the services of six seniors: Williams, Ryan Smedley, JT Gould, Brett Wyborney, Nick Hohrman and Jacob Whiteley but should return three juniors and a pair of sophomores to varsity. Waiting in the wings to provide a push for a varsity slot will be two juniors and five sophomores off the junior varsity squad, and 12 freshmen from the C team.
