Blackhawks swimming defeats Prosser 105-20

The Cheney High boys’ swim team enjoyed home field advantage for the first time this season with a 105-20 win over Prosser Jan. 24. Grandview was scheduled to compete at the meet, but they withdrew before the competition.

Trevor Babcock finished first in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.31 seconds. Spencer Hagel finished first in the 100 butterfly in 1:11.21. Justin Barker had a season best time in the 200 individual medley (2:49.80). Scott Nadeau took first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.54).

In team events, Babcock, Nadeau, Caleb Prophet and Brock Jongeward took first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.45) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.78).

“It was a great meet,” head coach Jennifer Hochwalt said. “Eighty-seven percent of our times were better and that’s good considering the kids had no rest. We worked them pretty hard in the last two weeks.”

Cheney finishes the regular season Jan. 31 when they host Pullman in the final meet of the regular season before district.

“We’re hoping to get a couple of wild cards in before districts,” Hochwalt said. “We’ll work hard until the meet, see how we do and then probably get some rest before districts.”
