ML wrestlers have podium finishes at Cheney Invite

Medical Lake wrestlers Ian O'Brien, wrestling in the 285-pound weight class and freshman Evan Peterson, competing at 106 pounds were Cardinal competitors who earned third-place finishes at last Saturday's Cheney Invitational.

It was the Cardinals first competition since before Christmas.

O'Brien, a senior, suffered his only loss to a West Valley wrestler who was runner-up at state the last three years. Peterson lost to the eventual champion in his weight class who is the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the state from Clarkston.

"They both wrestled well and have really improved over the break," Petersen said.

The Cardinals return to Northeast A League competition tonight, Jan. 8 at defending 2A champion and now a 1A school, Deer Park at 5:30 p.m. They will follow that by competing in the River City Duals Friday and Saturday at Post Falls.
