Bo Levi Mitchell leads Calgary to Grey Cup victory

Former Eastern Washington University quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell put together an MVP afternoon Nov. 30 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, leading the Calgary Stampeders to a 20-16 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup championship.

Mitchell, who played at EWU in 2010 and 2011, leading the Eagles to the 2010 Football Championship Subdivision national championship, completed 25 of 34 passes for 334 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

The numbers were good enough for Mitchell, a third-year pro, to be selected as the game's outstanding player.

"This is something I worked my entire life for," the 24-year-old Mitchell told the Associated Press. "To come to the Grey Cup and have a game like this and have the guys do what we did tonight after so much work, it's such an indescribable feeling."

After leading 14-0, and then 20-7 through three quarters, the Stampeders had to withstand a Ti-Cat rally in the fourth quarter. And they nearly saw the game slip away in the final 35 seconds, but an illegal block wiped out a 90-yard punt return by Hamilton's Brandon Banks.

Calgary won its first title since 2008 while Hamilton suffered its second straight Grey Cup loss after falling to Saskatchewan in the 2013 game.
