Medical Lake was one of four law enforcement agencies in the area participating in the “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” driving under the influence program to combat drunk driving over the holidays.
Multiple sold signs along a new street in Medical Lake’s Fox Hollow West subdivision illustrated the residential growth spurt in the city.
A 45-yard Erik Meyer to Eric Kimble touchdown pass with 1 minute, 45 seconds to play, rallied Eastern Washington past No. 1-ranked Southern Illinois University 35-31 in an NCAA I-AA football playoff game played in Carbondale. The win earned the Eagles a second-round home game versus Sam Houston State University.

The Cheney City Council voted to approve the first reading of proposed rate increases for water, garbage and sewer in 1995. If approved, water rates would increase 5 percent, garbage 6 percent and sewer 22.7 percent.
Cheney Police Sgt. Allen Bremmer showed off dozens of automobile hood ornaments that had been stolen, but recovered and turned in at City Hall. Bremmer hoped to reunite the items with their owners.
Cheney High School soccer players Lisa Anderson, Jamie Day and Melissa Krogh were all named to the All-Frontier League first team.

The Higher Education Coordination Study Committee’s final report recommended the merger of Eastern Washington University and Washington State University. Should that occur, the schools would keep their individual identities but merge certain services.
The installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 904 and Cheney-Spokane Road was the major topic of discussion during a meeting of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce.
The Big Sky Conference’s committee of three presidents was expected to soon make its recommendation on EWU’s application to the league.

Cheney voters approved by a 62-38 percentage —956 yes to 575 no votes — a $3.5 million bond issue that would fund a variety of improvements to district schools, plus the construction of a new middle school.
Over 100 wrestlers participated in the Eastern Washington State College Open. EWSC’s Lanny Davidson breezed past all of his opponents in the 177-pound weight class, never allowing a point.

A bold headline in the Cheney Free Press asked, “Does Cheney need a public library?” The question was posed in order to gauge the interest in possibly building a library in addition to one at EWSC and those found in three Cheney public schools.
Fresh from a 55-54 overtime basketball victory over Mead, Cheney was preparing to meet new Northeast A League members Selkirk and Riverside. Bob Bartlett’s free throw with four seconds to play against Mead was the winning point.
