A project to rehabilitate Cheney water wells one, two and six, costing an estimated $115,000, was one of the key projects approved by the City Council.

The Cheney Community Church, located between Second and Third streets was about to dedicate its new sanctuary and fellowship hall.

The Eastern Washington University volleyball team was preparing to host the Big Sky Conference tournament at Reese Court with hopes of making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Nov. 17, 1994

The Washington State Court of Appeals sided with the city of Cheney in denying a permit to construct a high-rise apartment and commercial building on State Route 904 at the site of the Elegant Egg Restaurant.

Cheney taxpayers received a nearly $600,000 decrease in their property tax bills when the local school district received levy assistance money from the state of Washington.

The Cheney High School Blackhawks ended their season with a 34-7 loss to West Valley-Yakima in the first round of the 2A playoffs and finished 6-3 on the year. Levi Luhn scored Cheney's touchdown.

Nov. 21, 1984

EWU received a $40,000 grant to survey and appraise 10 truckloads of documents from the city of Spokane that were discovered when offices moved to the new City Hall in 1981.

The Cheney Fire Department's brand new defibrillator made its debut in the hands of firefighter Gary Hartford. His actions - and the machine - helped save the life of a Cheney resident who had an apparent heart attack.

Cheney High School's wrestling team, led by the return of 10 lettermen, was preparing to begin its season. The team was coached by Sam Indorf and included: Tim Mason (116 pounds), Darrin Mason (122), Chad Triplett (129 or 135), Phil Vigil (129 or 135), Kurt Triplett (141 or 148), Wayne Harrington (168), John Beauvais (178), Joe Van Troba (190) and Scott Miller (unlimited).

Nov. 21, 1974

With talk about double-shifting at the high school, the Cheney School District was hoping for passage of a $3.5 million bond issue at the Nov. 26 election.

There were 53 starters in the recent Cheney Marathon, the largest field in the three-year history of the event.

Nov. 20, 1964

Cooks in the Cheney School District were preparing to cook 25 turkeys that would be used to serve students at a special lunch.

A total of 37 former Cheney High School graduates were enrolled at four-year colleges, including one at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Cheney High School's head basketball coach Don Monson announced he had cut his varsity team to 11 players including lettermen Randy Liddell, Steve Swegel, Bob Bartlett, Gary Rietz and Dick Yocum.
