EWU's Reiter claims Big Sky CC title

Eastern Washington’s Sarah Reiter collected the school’s first-ever individual cross country championship at the Big Sky Conference Championships Nov. 1 in Grand Forks, N.D.

Both EWU men’s and women’s teams competed with the women claiming fourth place with 136 points, behind Northern Arizona at 61. Eastern’s men were sixth (151 points) behind NAU with 24 points.

Reiter ran a time of 17 minutes, 5.2 seconds on the 5,000-meter, wind-blown course. Junior Berenice Penaloza finished ninth with a time of 17:35.2.

“I am absolutely ecstatic for Sarah,” EWU head coach Chris Zeller said. “At the beginning of last year, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to keep running after she transferred (from Montana State).”

On the men’s side, junior Vince Hamilton finished 13th overall with a time of 24:40.2 on the 8,000-meter course.

Both squads will head to Palo Alto, Calif., for the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Stanford University on Nov. 14.
