IAFICS free lecture Nov. 12

The Ice Age Floods Institute Cheney/Spokane chapter is sponsoring a free, public lecture, “The Ice Age Floods — A Perspective from Above and Within” on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 7 – 9 p.m. at Eastern Washington University’s Science Building, room 137.

Speaker Tom Tabbert will present new video footage of the Ice Age Floods from Lake Missoula to Wallula Gap and Lake Lewis using his flying Trike. He will explore flood features, carved canyons, potholes and scabland washes that will give “floodies” a new perspective of these fascinating geologic events and the means by which Tabbert visits them. His presentation is less geologic facts and more geologic “wow!”

Tabbert graduated from University of Wisconsin with a degree in geology. He started with a Navy flying career aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz before settling into his present career as a company consultant for knee and hip replacement. He began flying Trikes four years ago and has melded his passion for flying and geology together in a unique format.

Much of his video work can be viewed at YouTube.com/ttabbs. The lecture is co-sponsored by the EWU Geology Department. The annual IAFICS membership meeting and reception will be held from 6 – 7 p.m. in room 118 of the Science Building.
