Cheney officers render first assistance at I-90 accident

Cheney police units were first on the scene of an accident involving four vehicles, two of which were motorcycles, on Interstate 90 early Sunday morning, Oct. 19.

Cheney Officer Zeb Campbell was returning to Cheney from transporting an individual to Spokane County Jail when he came across the accident. According to the Washington State Patrol collision press memo, a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Brandy M. Laskowski, 21, of Moses Lake entered the freeway driving west in the eastbound lane and was in the right lane when she struck a 2008 Suzuki VL800K motorcycle driven by Zachary A. Wilson, 26, of Spokane at milepost 271.

Wilson’s motorcycle then careened into a Honda VTX180 motorcycle driven by Glenn A. Wilson, 50, of Spokane that had been traveling alongside. Wilson’s Suzuki went onto the right shoulder while the Honda was laid down in the roadway and subsequently struck by a 1998 Ford F250 pickup driven by James F. Wilson, 22, of Spokane.

Campbell rendered immediate assistance while calling for additional units. The closest unit was another Cheney unit driven by Officer Chris English that assisted in closing off the interstate’s eastbound lanes while the Washington State Patrol and emergency medical units arrived on scene.

Both Zachary Wilson and Glenn Wilson were injured and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Neither James Wilson, Laskowski nor the passenger in her vehicle, 21-year-old Michael R. Laskowski of Moses Lake, were injured.

The state patrol determined driving under the influence was the cause of the accident, charging Brandy Laskowski with DUI and vehicular assault.
