Cardinals fall to Freeman, Riverside in volleyball

Medical Lake volleyball fell in a pair of Northeast A League matches, losing 3-0 both at Freeman last Tuesday and Riverside Thursday at home.

Cassidy Hagel led the Cardinals with 11 assists as Medical Lake dropped a 15-25, 18-25, 11-25 decision to the Scotties (5-1, 6-1). Calin Mandapat had nine digs.

Thursday versus Riverside (3-3, 4-3) in a 19-25, 16-25, 18-25 loss, Mandapat equaled her 9-dig effort from earlier in the week.

The Riverside match was the first night that setter, Mollee Gray, was back in the lineup.  “Cassidy Hagel did a great job setting for us but we really missed her on the outside so she has moved back,” head coach Amanda Higgins said.

The Cardinals remained winless on the season at 0-6 in both league and overall play as they begin the second half of the season with matches at Chewelah (0-6, 1-6) this past Tuesday and Colville (2-2, 2-4) at home tonight (Oct. 9) at 6:30 p.m.

“We are still trying to get back in the grove of things with new setting but we are making strides,” Higgins said. “ Once we get everything pulled together we will be a different team coming into the second half of the season.”
