Officials at Eastern Washington University and the city of Cheney were putting their heads together to draft a plan about how to manage the biggest influx of people on a single day in city history. The EWU-Montana football game was expected to draw some 11,000 people.
An intensive geo-technical study had begun in advance of the construction of the proposed new Fox Hollow Elementary School in Medical Lake.
Medical Lake got a late game interception from Randal Johnson that led to a winning touchdown by Tim Morris with 51 seconds to play in a 14-7 football victory over previously unbeaten Lakeside.

Medical Lake School District officials broke ground on a $5.3 million new elementary school that would be built by Lydig Construction from Spokane.
The Cheney Blackhawks undefeated football season came to an end following a 35-24 non-league loss to Lewis and Clark of the Greater Spokane League. At 3-1, Cheney was to host East Valley in their Frontier League opener.

A peeping Tom who had been seen frequenting the Nugget Apartments early in the morning was arrested by Cheney police.
Medical Lake fell 18-7 in a Frontier League football game to undefeated Pullman with Greg Dunn scoring the only touchdown for the Cardinals.

The final 1965 budget for the city of Cheney, a total of $925,000, was announced following an afternoon meeting of the City Council.
Eastern Washington State College's fall enrollment reached an all-time high when registrar Perrin Smith announced that 3,203 students would attend the school. This was compared to 2,824 in fall of 1963.
More than $4.5 million in construction, including a new high-rise residential hall, plus a student union building, was announced by school officials at EWSC.
Terry Tucek, the self-described "old timer" on the EWSC football team at age 26 was expected to see action as the Savages faced off against Whitworth College at Woodward Field.
