Churches

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

All are welcome. A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. The 17th Sunday after Pentecost. Holy Communion at 11 a.m. Rev. Christine Soule will preach and preside.

The annual “Blessing of the Animals” will take place this Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10:30 a.m. – noon, in the parking lot of St. Paul’s. Animals of all faiths are welcome. The Episcopal Campus Ministry is collecting pet food to help families in the community facing financial hardship feed their pets. Invite your friends, family and neighbors to join us.

We are pleased to welcome our new choir director, Alexandra Rannow, who is currently pursuing her masters degree in music at Eastern Washington University. Regular rehearsals are each Thursday, in the sanctuary, 6 – 7 p.m. We invite singers of all ages and experience, members and non-members alike, to join us.

Attention college students: Each Monday at 5 p.m. you are invited to join us for dinner, study and devotions. We are a group of college students and young adults who take our faith journeys seriously … seriously enough to show up and engage in ministry to and with each other. We are not necessarily all Episcopalians and we have no “litmus test” of belief to which you must subscribe.

We believe God loves and values you. We believe that it is important to take the time, in this busy age and culture, to stop, listen and come together for prayer, worship, study and meals. All are welcome.

Narcotics Anonymous meets Tuesday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Fellowship breakfast is each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in the parish hall. Join us for good food, fellowship and discussion. Come and bring a friend.

For your contemplation: “Waiting patiently in expectation is the foundation of the spiritual life,” so says Simone Weil. “Without patience our expectation degenerates into wishful thinking. Patience comes from the word ‘patior’ which means ‘to suffer.’ … What seems a hindrance becomes a way; what seems an obstacle becomes a door; what seems a misfit becomes a cornerstone.” Henri J.M. Nouwen.

St. Paul’s is located at 625 C St. on the edge of EWU campus.

United Church of Christ

How are our neighbors important to us? The art of the American Indians that Carl Schwenn is displaying in our sanctuary and the varied ways in which we celebrate World Communion Sunday give us new insights into all these ethnic groups. Finally, our special stewardship offering will go to help our neighbors in need.

Pastor David Krueger-Duncan will lead us in the open communion service during the 10 a.m. worship service at 423 N. Sixth St.

There’s a lot going on at Cheney UCC. Come check us out.

First, children ages 3 – 11 are invited to attend classes for their age group. Child care for pre-schoolers is available in the nursery from 9:45 – 11:15 a.m.

It’s not too late to admire the new landscaping and the redecorated Christian education rooms. Mike Folsom, Kevin Daugherty, Rhonda Jared and Pat Kennedy pitched in to pitch some gravel on the North Sixth Street side of the sanctuary. Carl Schwenn and Kevin Daugherty fixed the sprinkler, and Ron and Rhonda Jared did the beautiful landscaping around the patio. Jane Yarwood and Shelby Krueger-Duncan have worked many hours to prepare for Sunday school this fall, and Pastor Dave has been assisting with various projects and hanging the doors in the Christian education building. Thanks to all.
