St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

All are welcome. A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. The 16th Sunday after Pentecost. Holy Communion at 11 a.m. The Rev. Christine Soule will preach and preside.

We are pleased to welcome our new choir director, Alexandra Rannow, currently pursuing her master’s degree in music at Eastern Washington University. Regular rehearsals will be each Thursday in the Sanctuary, 5:30 — 6:30 p.m. We invite singers of all ages and experience, members and non-members alike, to join us.

Attention college students: Please join us each Monday evening at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and devotions. We are a group of college students and young adults who take our faith journeys seriously, seriously enough to show up and engage in ministry to and with each other. We are not necessarily all Episcopalians and we have no “litmus test” of belief to which you must subscribe. We believe God loves and values you. We believe that it is important to take the time, in this busy age and culture, to stop, listen and come together for prayer, worship, study and meals. All are welcome.

Looking ahead, the annual Blessing of the Animals is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, l0:30 a.m. — noon at St. Paul’s. Animals of all faiths are welcome. The Episcopal Campus Ministry is collecting pet food to help families in the community facing financial hardship feed their pets. Invite your friends, family and neighbors to join us

Narcotics Anonymous meets Tuesday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

Fellowship breakfast is each Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Join us for good food, fellowship and discussion. Come and bring a friend.

For your contemplation: Be prepared at all times for the gifts of God and be ready always for new ones. For God is a thousand times more ready to give than we are to receive.” Meister Eckhart, Mystic and Prophet (1260-1329).

St. Paul’s is located at 625 C St. on the edge of the EWU campus.

United Methodist Church

The sanctuary may look a bit different when you join us for worship this Sunday morning at the United Methodist Church. It is being infested by mosquitos made by our Sunday school students. You can rid the sanctuary of mosquitos by purchasing one for $10. Proceeds go toward eliminating malaria.

Worship is at 10 a.m. and will be led by the Rev. Alissa Bertsch Johnson. Preceding the service there are Sunday school classes for ages 3 – adult at 9 a.m.

Following worship there is a pancake feed open to the public to benefit the “Imagine No Malaria” project. Pancakes will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free will offering.

A second worship service is at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. It is conversational in style and open to all. Visitors, students and newcomers to the Cheney area will find a warm welcome at UMC.

Cheney UMC is located at 204 Fourth St. Office hours are 8:15-11:45 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. For more information about worship or study groups call 235-4600.
