Hallett Elementary School held their annual Parent Information Evening (PIE) event, Sept. 17.
Hallett principal Cindy McSmith said the school holds the event two weeks after school starts. She explained that the night gives parents an opportunity to come to the school, get a look inside their chilren's classrooms and introduce themselves to teachers. Families were also served apple pie in the cafeteria.
"Parents learn about rules, expectations and schedules of the classroom, as well as all of the other things about life in school," McSmith said.
Hallett fifth-grade teacher Wendy Gilbert gave a Powerpoint presentation of expectations. She also answered questions and provided her contact information.
For Gilbert, the event gives her a chance to establish a rapport with parents. She believes that connecting with parents can help students excel in the classroom.
"For parents, students and teachers to be on the same page is a key to success," Gilbert said.
Christy Gollehon, a parent, said the event allowed her to not only connect with her child's teacher, but also reconnect with the other students in the class.
Like Gilbert, Gollehon believes that communication between staff, students and parents is important.
"I can call my child's teacher and she can call me and let me know what's going on in the classroom," Gollehon said.
