Lorraine Marcene (Hess) Flikke of Cheney, passed away Sept. 11, 2014 in Spokane. She was born July 7, 1919 in Deer Lodge, Mont. and grew up in Coeur d'Alene and Rathdrum, Idaho.
In 1938, she graduated from Rathdrum High School and married Leland Flikke in Newport, Wash. Lee and Lorraine purchased and operated the general store in Westmond, Idaho in their early years before Lee went into the Army Air Force. They settled in Spokane and purchased a grocery store on Nevada Street called Flikke's Grocery and another store on Northwest Boulevard. In 1955 with the advent of the supermarket, the small neighborhood grocery stores closed and Lee and Lorraine moved to Cheney where Lee delivered milk door to door for Darigold, and Lorraine was a "cream tester."
Lorraine lived in Cheney until her death, the last five years at Cheney Assisted Living with all her friends.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Jerry Flikke (Karen) of Spokane and Marcene Hendrickson (Paul) of Dayton, Wash. Eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Cheney United Methodist Church. Burial was at Fairmount Cemetery in Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney United Methodist Church. Visit the online guestbook at cheneyfuneral.com.
