One hundred twenty-five years ago in 1889, Cheney public school principal William J. Sutton began offering high school courses to students after the regular school day. At that time state law did not authorize a high school curriculum. We know of at least one student who completed Mr. Sutton’s course and went on to pass the entrance exam for the University of California.
