Cards tune-up at Davenport, play in Freeman Tourney

Medical Lake’s girl’s volleyball team kicked off its 2014 season competing in the Davenport Tournament last Saturday.

“We played Bridgeport, Davenport, Omak and Almira-Coulee-Hartline,” head coach Amanda Higgins said. “We lost all four matches, however we played pretty good.” No scores or stats were available.

The initial outing allowed Higgins to give the team an opportunity to play multiple positions, she said.

“We did get a little tired by the end of the day but all in all I was pretty happy with what I saw,” Higgins said. “It gives me an idea what we still need to work on before the season starts next week.”

Next up for the Cardinals is this Saturday’s Freeman Tournament, an event the team returns to after a few years absence. The times Medical Lake will play and the teams they face have not been announced.

Freeman will be the final tune-up before the start of Northeast A League play, Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Colville and Thursday, Sept. 18 at Deer Park. Both matches start at 6:30 p.m.
