Cheney United Church of Christ

After the regular worship service at 10 a.m., pastor Dave Krueger-Duncan and the church council invite all congregants and friends of Cheney UCC to the barbecue lunch this coming Sunday.

This is not a potluck. All food will be provided by council members so bring your friends and your appetite. This is the first of our “Fifth Sunday” special events of the year.

Cheney UCC members are enthusiastic supporters of the monthly “Feed Cheney” dinners. During the summer months meals have been provided not only by Cheney UCC, but also by the United Methodist Church and the Cheney Church of the Nazarene. They occur on the last Monday of the month, every month throughout the year, usually at the Wren Pierson Building.

Another special tradition at Cheney UCC is the offering of extra gifts to the Mount Selinda mission in Zimbabwe, Africa. Congregants give a monetary gift to Mount Selinda as they celebrate their own birthdays and anniversaries. This practice started long ago, after former members Willy and DeeDee Gamon served at the Mount Selinda hospital, and mission, as volunteers.

Looking ahead, there will be a memorial service for Mary Jane Booth Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. Those wishing to contact the church office for details about the service, or for any reason, are advised office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1 - 5 p.m.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

All are welcome this Sunday, Aug. 31, to worship with us at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Adult education begins at 9 a.m. Fellowship follows the worship service. You may also watch our pastor’s sermons on our website http://www.emmanuelcheney.org or on YouTube at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Cheney.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 7, for Rally Day. In place of the usual worship service we will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. for prayer, greeting and offering collection. We will then go out into the community to do “God’s Work, Our Hands” service projects. Join us in the Fellowship Hall afterwards for a potluck lunch. Sunday school classes will resume Sept. 14.

United Methodist Church

Sunday worship is at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Worship will be led by the Rev. Alissa Bertsch Johnson, who will continue a sermon series on the parables of Jesus. All are welcome. Christian education classes that have been on recess during the summer months will resume on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Cheney UMC is located at 204 Fourth St. Office hours are 8:15 – 11:45 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. For more information about worship or study groups call 235-4600.
