From the archives: 1984

As the Cheney city swimming pool prepared to open in 1984, workers such as Parks and Recreation Department maintenance supervisor Wayne Foland (left) was busy installing new gutter grating at the edge of the pool deck. The grating had cost $12,000 and replaced old deteriorating ceramic tiles. The pool was celebrating its 20th anniversary in 1984 and had a variety of events and activities scheduled, including swimming lessons and numerous public swimming sessions.
