Cheney’s attempt to continue advancing through the post season fell one run short Tuesday night as the Lady Hawks fell 8-7 to the East Valley Knights in District 7 third-round action at East Valley.
The Knights grabbed an 8-0 lead after the first two innings, but Cheney slowly whittled that away. The Lady Hawks scored three in the fourth, one in the sixth and three more in their final at bat in the seventh, only to have the season end when umpires called a runner out for interference with an infielder.
East Valley moves on to await the loser of Saturday’s match up with league champion Colville and Deer Park, the winner of which gets the district’s top seed to state. The loser plays East Valley immediately following the first game for the No. 2 seed.
Cheney ends its season 9-9 in Great Northern League play, 12-11 overall.
