Kreiger signs with Puget Sound

Cheney High School’s Kyle Krieger has signed a letter of Intent to attend University of Puget Sound in Tacoma to play football for the 2014-2015 school year. Krieger maintains a 3.8 grade point average. He was selected as a 2013 first team offensive lineman for the Great Northern League.

Marchand runner-up in golf

Cheyenne Marchand of Cheney shot a 94 to finish second in the Girls 15-18 division at the first junior golf tournament of the 2014 at Downriver Golf Course May 3. Katie Ochoa from Spokane won the division with an 86.

Eagle Spirit Triathalon ahead

The 26th annual Eastern Washington University Iron Eagle Sprint Triathlon will take place Sunday, June 1, with check-in from 7-7:45 a.m at the EWU Pool.

Consisting of a 500-meter swim in the EWU Pool, 10-mile bike route around the Cheney road system and a 5k run, this is a popular event for first-timers as well as those athletes prepping for the upcoming season.

The cost to participate is $30 ($15 for EWU students, faculty and staff) and participants can sign up in advance or at the door.

Cheney golf league registers

The Cheney Summer Golf League is opening up to new teams from the West Plains this summer.

The league plays on Thursdays from June 19 through July 31 with groups of four teeing off at 10 a.m. each round.

Cost to join the league is $40 per person and includes entry and lunch at the player’s tournament, inclusion in league awards and addition to the weekly recap and newsletter. Each player will pay their own green fees and cart rental if needed.
