Girls' golf takes second in GNL match, boys finish fourth

The Cheney High boys’ and girls’ golf teams continued to make strides in league competition this past week.

The girls’ team bounced back to take second place with a score of 560 points at the third Great Northern League match April 29. Clarkston was first with 533.

Leading the Hawks was Steffi Cunningham who shot a season best of 90, two strokes behind Clarkston’s Gracie Frazier, who led the competition at 88.

Cheyenne Marchand also shot a season best 96 while Shyann Morton recorded a 103. Other Cheney scorers were Tessa Heiydt (128) and Jaceya Prophet (143).

The boys’ golf team came in fourth with 496 points, two strokes behind third-place Deer Park. Similar to the girls, Clarkston finished first with 416.

Brad Anderson led Cheney, shooting a season best of 84. Peter Condon came two strokes behind his teammate with 86, eight better than his last GNL outing.

Other golfers who scored were Tanner Cunningham (103), Ashton Tanzer (108), Kendell Weller (115) and Taylor McNall (116).

After both teams competed in the last GNL match, May 6, at Liberty Lake Golf Course, they will head to the league tournament, May 13, at MeadowWood Golf Course in Spokane.
