David Vianes Saldivar, born in Kingsville, Texas, June 10, 1947, died April 18, at his home in Edwall, Wash., from a long battle with cancer.
He was a beloved, outgoing, warm and friendly man who became a long time friend to whomever he met.
He was a father to many who would come to him for advice or ask how to do car repairs or just how to deal with their family situations.
Memorial services will be held at Cheney Community Church, 1302 E. Third St., April 26, at 11 a.m. with a potluck following in the basement of church.
Survivors include his wife Tina of 34 years, four sons and two daughters; Israel Saldivar of Edwall, Rebecca Iniguez of Cheney, Bernice Orsua, Roland Barreras, David Saldivar; Manual Castaneda of California; 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Richard Orsua and Mike Apodaca; two daughters-in-law Marissa Barrares and Lizette Castaneda; his brothers Joe and Randy; three sisters Edna, Janice and Jita; in-laws, Earl and Judy Whisenhunt of Arizona; sisters-in-law Toni Foster and Terri Saldivar/Mitchell of Spokane.
He had many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Israel and Beatrice Saldivar of Texas, his daughter Melissa S. Saldivar and her daughter Mataya of Edwall; his grandson Jesse Saldivar, his brothers Kayatano, Roland, Roy, Rocky and Vincent; his sisters Beatrice, Monrique and Vicky Bayless.
Thank you to Jane and Sherri, and the many other people of hospice who made it possible for him to remain at home until his death. Without them I do not think I could have done it.
