Cheney Community Church

Thursday May 1, Cheney Community Church, located at 1307 Third St., will host a National Day of Prayer gathering at 7 p.m.

The theme for this year’s prayer focus is “One Voice United in Prayer,” based upon the verse from Romans 15:6. “So with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

An invitation is extended to our local churches and folks in the community to join us in praying for the needs of people in our towns, cities and nation.

Prayer is important, and God does hear and answer prayer.

Our youth group meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. They enjoyed a number of fun activities during spring break including hiking and a picnic at Medical Lake Public Park, a visit to an art museum, and an outing to Sky High Trampoline House.

The Awana Club has also resumed following spring break. These younger kids meet Wednesdays 6:30 p.m.

The community is invited to Sunday services here at the church, 10 a.m. each week. Nursery care and children’s church are both provided at this time.

A number of small groups meet during the week. For further information, call the office at (509)235-4841.

United Church of Christ

The UCC children’s Lenten/Easter project finished up last Sunday.

They collected money from a very generous congregation for the KIND, “Kids in Need of Desks” project that serves impoverished schools in Malawi, Africa.

Through this project money is also dedicated to funding education for girls in that nation. The Cheney UCC congregation raised over $1,600 in this effort.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to a great Easter Sunday experience last weekend, from those who brought food to the annual Easter breakfast to those who helped with the children’s Easter egg hunt.

Special thanks to Gail and Alison Hilton who trimmed back the rose bushes in the church’s rose garden last Saturday.

During the Easter worship service 10 people were welcomed as new members of the church. We are happy to be a growing congregation.

For interested men in the congregation, Sunday April 27 will begin with breakfast at 7:45 a.m. at Willow Springs Restaurant. All men of the congregation are invited.
