Tuesday's Cheney power outage due to blown 'transmission'

Cheney residents were left in the dark for a period of time late Tuesday afternoon thanks to a citywide power outage.

According to city personnel, the “bump down” came as a result of a blown “transmission.” Power was out for about five minutes for most of the city, went down again briefly and then came back up.

In some sections of the city the power went “off and on” for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour while crews were working on the problem.

Tuesday’s outage occured during rainy and often times windy conditions. Cheney’s power system includes 136 miles of cable and 5,286 meters.
