Gardeners of Cheney meeting

The Gardeners of Cheney Club will meet Monday, Feb. 10, 6:30 p.m. at the Sessions Village Center of the Cheney Care Center. John Taves will speak about food preservation. Visitors are welcome to attend.   

‘The New Black: Is Gay Rights the new Civil Rights?’ screening

The EWU Pride Center and Africana Studies department is sponsoring a screening of “The New Black: Is Gay Rights the new Civil Rights?” Thursday, Feb. 13 from 3-5 p.m., in Monroe Hall Room 207 The film has several nominations including the NCAAP Image Award for Best Documentary and GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.

This film shows activists, families and clergy on both sides of the campaign to legalize gay marriage and examines homophobia in the black community’s institutional pillar-the black church. Guest speaker LaKecia Farmer, former EWU student and openly gay candidate for Pullman City Council will follow the film.
