The Cheney boys’ swimming team traveled to Yakima to compete against the Hanford/Richland Falcons swimming team, Jan. 18. Cheney lost to Hanford 126-53 and Richland 140-42.
Several swimmers competed in races they have not swam as much in earlier in the season.
Scott Nadeau clocked in at 1 minute, 59.24 seconds in the 200 freestyle and came in third. Nadeau also competed in the 500 freestyle, coming in at 5:24.96
Caleb Prophet finished at 2:38.41 for the 200 individual medley. Xavier Meyer clocked a 27.94 in the 50 freestyle.
Nick Steele came in at 1:03.47 for the 100 fly. Brock Jorgeward finished in 59.40 in the 100 freestyle. Sam Schreieber finished at 1:19.68 for the 100 breast.
Nadeau, Steele, Jorgeward and Prophet clocked in at 1:40.87 in the 200 medley relay.
Steele, Prophet, Nadeau and Kit Foster recorded a 3:53.86 in the 400 free relay, placing third.
Blackhawks’ head coach Jennifer Hochwalt said the swimmers did well and improved in events they normally did not compete in the past. She also mentioned she might try something similar at the next event.
“We have a couple newer swimmers and I’ll put them the longer events,” Hochwalt said. “They have the conditioning for it.
The team will head back to Yakima to compete against the West Valley Eagles, Feb. 1.
